Spring Newsletter<\/h1>\n

It’s hard to believe we are into Spring already!<\/p>\nWith the change of season comes a change of building company to complete the long anticipated close care units.\n\nWe have now parted company with Pod Living and anticipate the completion of the new units by (this!) summer. There isn’t that much to do and hopefully further disruption will be at an absolute minimum.\n\nWe have also re sited the location for the skip and portaloo as to not encroach on the car park. Once the units are built we will be looking to reconfigure the parking to create some additional places.\n\n\nA view of the lounge and bedroom area of one of the units.<\/span>\n\n\nNew Gazebo\n\n\nWheelchair accesible raised garden beds\n\nWe are also looking into the landscaping of the gardens to include a raised bed garden by pod 3 (at the right hand side of the double pod unit nearest the road), we will also be adding a further patio area to the rear of the property to replace the current gazebo with a larger version as pictured.\n\nFinally we are making improvements to Room 7 with the building of an ensuite facility therein. This will include some minor building work which will be contained within the room, but may inevitably cause some noise or disruption. Apologies if you are disturbed during the work, we will of course work with the builder to keep disruption and noise to an absolute minimum.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n\n

Behind the Scenes<\/strong><\/span>\nA lot goes on behind the scenes here at Avon Lee and I thought it would be good to highlight some of the ‘back office’ functions of the home, and one of those key functions are our staff supervisions.Supervisions can take the form of a one or two to one meeting rather like an annual appraisal, but that will go over performance both positive and negative from the last 6 weeks. Depending upon the volume of points to discuss supervisions can take up to an hour.\n

Used in conjunction with our staff meeting workshops, supervisions help ensure the continuity and professionalism of our team. We can isolate particular themes, for example our last workshop was improving the infection control throughout the home and ensuring the continuity of quality throughout all staff members.<\/p>\n\n\nOur supervision process provides ring fenced time every six weeks for all of our team to not only receive feedback and career development guidance from the myself as the Director and Tracy as Manager, but also to give suggestions on any improvement to our service. It can also help identify individual training requirements which help staff feel valued.<\/span>\n

Not only does this ‘Investors in People’ accredited approach help with our care provision, but it also leads us to having a very high staff retention rate, which leads to staff continuity, which of course benefits our clients.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n\n\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n

Activities<\/h1>\n

Thank you to Alison and all staff involved who have worked very hard over the last few months, especially Christmas to provide a great activity programme that was really well received! The activities have varied from outings to Stewarts to visits from Burton Nursery, the ‘Creature Teacher’ visit is always popular!
